I have a bit of an odd relationship with Stephen King's works: though I've started at least half a dozen of them over the years, this is only the second one I've managed to finish. Not because they're bad books (well, except in one case) but because he has the uncanny ability to write a story that gets under my skin and causes me psychological anguish for weeks afterwards. The Stand is a perfect example of that, and I'm glad that in this case, I chose to power through my discomfort.

Ah-mazing. I'm not into horror or dystopia or gore or anything Stephen King often is. But this book is incredible. I believe it's the longest book I've ever read (I read the complete & uncut version - it's longer than The Count of Monte Cristo), but I rarely felt that details were unnecessary or that characters where unimportant.
