I read this so long ago, I cannot really remember, but sometime in late '70s or early '80s. A book that pits the forces of good and evil against one another. Whenever I hear someone say they "never" read Stephen King, I tell them to read this one.

This was a tremendous undertaking - a story about the end of civilization and the battle between good and evil.
There were a lot of extra characters; sometimes it was confusing sorting them out. The most interesting characters were Stu, Franny, Larry, and Harold. I had little interest in the pyromaniac Trash Can Man, though he served his purpose.

A superflu is inadvertently released and it wipes out 99% of the population. This is the story of the epidemic and what happens to the survivors. I read the uncut version of the book. I really liked the main story but some parts of the book really dragged. I have a feeling this would have been avoided if I had the original version of the book. Then after taking forever to get there the ending confrontation seemed really rushed. A good story but in my opinion not King's best even though I know to
