This book is a compilation of tons of things concerning human cadavers. The history of them from when surgeons were considered a kin to butchers all the way to modern day organ donors. As a person who has huge anxiety about flying, I found the chapter on plane crashes to be horrifying (it will be awhile before I convince myself to get on a plane again).

I would probably give this book a 3.5 if I could do half stars because it felt a little disjointed (did I just make a pun?!) and jumbled. I wish

This had some very interesting parts, but a little over halfway through I began to lose interest as the topics related to cadavers got more bizarre or minutely focused. This first chapters deal with the history of uses for cadavers and how they changed and how the process for acquiring cadavers for study developed. Sections cover use of cadavers for learning anatomy at the beginning of medical and surgical professions, then uses for teaching today's doctors and refining new methods of surgery. A ...more

Interesting read if you are curious to what can happen in different avenues available to one once they die if they forgo the embalming, casket, traditional Western thing.

I was grossed out by Gulp, but as I had predicted while reading it, I was much more comfortable with cadavers. The information in this book isn't totally new to me as I've read it in other books about cadavers, but Roach has a distinctive voice that other (cadaver) writers have tried to imitate but haven't gotten close to. It was worth reading the book for her writing. ...more
