Delayed Penalty (Crossing the Line, #1) in Crazy Challenge Connection

I started reading Delayed Penalty by Shey Stahl knowing that it had two things going for it - hockey and a love story!!!

But beyond that, it's like no other hockey romance that I've ever read, and by that I mean it's THE best hockey romance I've ever read.

There's no doubt, it's heavy on the hockey talk, but it works for me. Evan "Mase" Masen is an almost 21 year old hockey player, living out his lifetime dream of playing in the NHL. It's what he loves and it's the path that he's been on since playing youth hockey in the rinks and in the streets of Philly.

Then one night as he's on his way from a game celebration, he stumbles upon a broken girl in the frigid winter air, barely alive. Without hesitation, he reacts and gathers her up and gets her to the emergency room. It's beyond her ability to explain but he feels such a deep connection to her.. is it protectiveness, or curiosity to see if she'll pull through such a traumatic event or is it something more?

A few days and a few surgeries later, the doctors say that if she can pull out of a coma, she has a strong chance of recovering. Mase continues to visit her while she's in the coma, talking to her, and just being there for her, as it's been discovered that she has no one else. Finally he gets the word that she's woken up and is asking to see the man who brought her to the hospital. The instant connection that both Ami and Mase feel from that first conversation in her hospital room is so intense, so unbreakable, so perfect.

This is so unlike any other romance I've ever read. There's never a misunderstanding that tears the couple apart only for them to come back together stronger than ever. It's just the two of them, learning more about each other, loving more about each other and their connection growing stronger and stronger with each passing day and everything that comes along, good or bad.

So Shey Stahl, you get an absolute A+ for Delayed Penalty from me and I absolutely cannot wait until Off Sides, Leo's story, is out so I can once again take the ice with you!!
