This book is about Abby, a photographer in San Francisco, who is engaged to Jake. She’s at the beach with her fiance’s daughter, Emma, when in one critical moment, she looks away and Emma goes missing. This book follows Abby’s search for Emma.

Though the storyline had promise, I felt the author failed to deliver. For me, this was a very slow read as I didn’t really think the author created any sense of urgency. The narration was “distant” and had a dreamlike (“foggy”) tone to it that only made th

An excellent book by a new to me author that explores love and it's different types. Abby is at the beach with her fiancé's daughter when she looks away for just a second only to turn around to find that Emma is missing. Abby feels terrible guilt and literally spends her entire time over the length of a year searching for Emma, long after both the police and her father have given up. This book is about a woman who searches for her fiancee's daughter after she disappears on a beach in San Francisco. Emma was in her care and Abby looked away and when she looked back Emma was gone. It was a heart wrenching book with all of the emotions the main character dealt with as she searched for this little girl. It is a situation that no one would ever want to imagine happening to themselves. ...more

This book was such a great story about a woman losing her fiance's daughter and they year she spent looking for her. All the struggles and pain that people go through when a child is kidnapped. Great writing for a great story. The ending seemed weird but actually fit the story very well. Glad I just happened to find the book and read it. ...more

Quite an introspective read. Somewhat "stream of consciousness." I liked the writing style and loved the memory anecdotes and quotes interspersed throughout. A very, very sad story although undoubtedly realistic.

Can't wait to read Ms. Redmond's next novel!
