Shelves: bittersweet
This was a lovely, moving, bittersweet story that's better than the stories in the bible and just as believable. As I read this, I was thankful that I don't live in such a deferential time and that the abolition of patriarchy continues. How much better would the bible have been with the stories of women included as something other than just a morality tale about respecting male dominance. And this book reminded me that I'm grateful to the women who put up with that shit for generations, eventual ...more

I liked this story of Dinah, the only daughter of Jacob, but I didn't love it. I really enjoy historical fiction but this one was hard for me to follow. Maybe it was the number of various characters, the story overall...I'm just not sure. This has been on my TBR for a long time; I'm glad it's now off!

This was a very emotional, beautifully written story of womanhood.

Though some parts of the book I did not, per se, 'enjoy' reading; were necessary for varying reasons. The Red Tent, overall, was a journey worth experiencing.
