What a fascinating book. I'd probably rate it 3.5 stars if I could, but the ending was warm and so I rounded up. We follow the life of Dinah, the only daughter of Jacob from the Bible. It was interesting to read about a woman's life, actually everyone's life, in that time. The intricacies of large and complex families were ruled by gods and ancient beliefs. It seemed so foreign compared to our lives today. They lived in such close proximity and were open about their bodies and their lives, but a

An excellent piece of historical fiction about ancient times. The story follows the life of Dinah, who is mentioned in passing in Genesis. This is not at all religion-infused, though - you won't find Jewish or Christian messages here. Dinah is very much a real person with daily struggles and interests.

Excellent depiction of life in biblical times especially the issues of different gods and goddesses from different cultures. The story of the women and their bonding in the red tent during their menses and childbirth was exceptionally good. Also very interesting was that God's chosen ones were very flawed and in many cases violent characters. For those who love historical fiction, this has to be high on your list.
