The Thirteenth Tale is told in the creaky and creepy old tradition of Victorian gothic novels. Basically its main premise is that an elderly popular fiction writer, Vida Winter, is approaching the end of her days, and has invited a quiet, reserved, almost repressed woman, Margaret Lea, to come and write her biography...the elusive thirteenth tale. The synopsis is accurate enough to not require a re-hash or clarification. What kept me going was the insane love affair that Ms. Setterfield described in the most loving and intimate manner. As every reader knows it is the insane love of books!

It's a very intriguing story about a complex family.

I really liked this book. It wasn't at all what I expected. However, I was mildly disappointed in the ending. I hate it when books attempt a quick wrap up.
