What Members Thought

Like all Nora Roberts books, this roller coaster grabs you, dips you, sways you and dumps you down a well of emotions, both good and bad. I enjoyed part one, the setup. I never realized the training involved in being an extreme fire fighter. It's amazing what these adrenaline-junkies do to get their crazy on. Wow you truly gotta be nuts to take on that kind of danger. I guess it takes all kinds.

I liked this a lot. I'd always taken for granted the people whose jobs it was to put out the wild fires you hear and read about on the news so often each year. I never realized they were people who basically volunteered to do this for the season (yes, they get paid, at least in this storyline, but still) and then went back to "regular" jobs the rest of the year. Rowan Tripp is the daughter of renown smoke jumper Lucas "Iron Man" Tripp and is a good smoke jumper herself. Her one rule is to never become involved with another jumper which lasts until rookie Gulliver Curry comes along. There is also some drama when the camp cook blames Rowan for her lovers death last year and then ends up being murdered. The mystery part of the book was pretty easy to figure out.
