Butch is a good character but his wooing for Marissa was just sad because she just annoyed me throughout the story. She just couldn't be honest with her feeling for Butch or just having the guts to even be tough enjoy to say what she wanted. The only time I was impressed with her anger was when she told he brother off and when she spoke up at the council meeting. All the other times she just annoyed me. 5 stars. My notes for this book are a mess. Seriously, a good 98% of is just “Holy hell look at my ship sail! Look at them go! It’s beautiful omg!” and the other 2% is notes about how cruel J.R. Ward is for teasing me with such a perfect ship. This woman has my heart and soul right now and I’m okay with that.

Honestly, I really only loved this for all of the Butch and V. All. of. it. It was beautiful and perfect. Every single scene between them had me squeeing like an idiot. I mean, the quote above is between those two and not even between the actual couple in the book. I’m such a trash for them. These two are my favorite ship in this series and I will go down fighting with it!

I will say that I didn’t love this as much as Lover Awakened but it was still really freaking good and I can see that this series just gets better with each book. The action in this was really awesome and I’m anxious to see how everything with the Lessers is going to end up. Also, John is my little sunshine so every time he showed up was great and painful and oh, god, she better not do anything to hurt him! I love that kid so much.

Hate to say it but I didn’t like Marissa in this at all ~~and no not because she was coming between my OTP. Shut up~~. She’s my least favorite female protagonist in the series so far which is unfortunate because I liked her just fine in the previous books. She was just way too much of a Mary Sue here and was really fucking whiny and annoying. She got a bit tolerable in the end but by the end I was too busy on the V&Butch5ever train that I just didn’t care. I wanted more from her character especially since she ends up with Butch who is my spirit animal and I only want the absolute best for him. Hopefully she’ll grow on me as the series goes on.

Butch O’Neal is the fucking man and I love him dearly. There’s really nothing else that needs to be said. I absolutely loved learning more about him and his tragic backstory with his family. I loved his character development because it felt really natural and authentic to his character and how he is and everything that he went through. Dude had a pretty shitty life so I was happy to see him happy. His dynamic with The Brotherhood is so amazing and was one of my favorite things to see here because there was so much emphasis on it. Especially at the end. Though I will say I hated all of the miscommunication between him and Marissa. That was mainly his fault because he just wouldn’t talk to her. It was so grating with the back and fourth between them because it was easily fixable.

I cannot wait to read more about V in the next book! All of his inner turmoil about his feelings about Butch gave me every damn feel and I loved getting to see and learn more about him as well because he is such a mystery. He still very much is but the little tiny bit we get to know about him made me even more curious.

In this fourth book, we are all about Butch and Marissa. While I still loved this book and super love this series, I'm torn on how I feel about it. Marissa is as aristocrat as aristocrat can get but it has left her ostracized and with no one to really talk to. Butch is basically a kept man. He lives with the Brotherhood with all the benefits but he can't really be part of the Brotherhood because he's human...or is he?

I had a hard time liking this one. Not much love for the main characters. The only reason i kept on reading was for the little snippets on characters that were secondary to this book in the series.
What a disappointment after the sizzling 3rd book in the series.
