Absolutely delightful and (to my surprise) my favorite Hathaway book
Lisa Kleypas' latest novel is absolutely delightful; she has woven a wonderful and rich tale of love, and has done so with a great deal of skill and depth. I've been a great fan of the Hathaway clan and their stories, but for some reason was never very interested in Beatrix's. The sneak preview at the end of Married by Morning completely changed my opinion and I was ecstatic to only have to wait a month ... as well as a little n ...more

The last book in The Hathaways series and as good as the previous ones.
This is the story of the most unordinary of the Hathaways sisters - Beatrix. Her neighbour, Captain Christopher Phelan is fighting in the Crimean war. The letters from Beatrix, that she signs as her friend Penelope, give him hope and strength to survive. Phelan finally comes back, brutally changed by his experiences, determinated to find a woman he felt in love.

Beatrix Hathaway & Captain Christopher Phelan
We've come to the conclusion of The Hathaways series and what a way to go. I've been wondering what type of man Beatrix would fall in love with, and the Christopher after he was off in the army and had experienced something besides London's society was the perfect fit.
Beatrix is not your average female of that time, well really none of the Hathaways are which is why I love them. They are unconventional for that time.

#5 in the Hathaways series
Loved it! I was looking forward to Beatrix's story, and this was just right. As an animal lover and a good-natured soothing personality, Beatrix was bound to find a man to love who really needed her. Christopher is her friend Audrey's brother-in-law, just returned from war and suffering from PTSD. The twist is that they exchanged letters while he was at The Crimea, but he thought he was sharing his thoughts with Prudence, her empty-headed but beautiful friend. I loved r ...more

This book proved to me again why LK is my favorite historical romance author.
I hated Pru and was so happy that Christopher quickly started to realize that Pru probably wasn't the one who wrote him and that there wasn't a lot of the two of them together.
Even though I had enjoyed Beatrix in previous books she hadn't been my favorite of the sisters. With this one however she became my favorite Hathaway. Christopher and Beatrix complimented each other well. Beatrix's personality was "out of the bo ...more

A very sweet and refreshing romance, with a dark side. This is my first glimpse of the Hathaways and I'm hooked! They are the kind of family you want to be a part of, even (or especially) with all of their quirks.
Beatrix is so far one of my favorite female characters in the genre. Her independence, passion for animals, and unconventional hobbies made me like her more with each chapter. She was strong, yet sweet and compromising...something which seems to be lacking in a lot of characters lately ...more
