Re-read in audio in October 2020 - narrated by Robert Petkoff
Yes, I just upped the rating and all because of Mr. Petkoff. Why is it that when he narrates these books, all the shenanigans that the MCs do seem perfectly normal? This time around, I wasn't as bothered by what I mentioned in the last re-read. I just took it in stride! Petkoff just gets the extreme campiness of the stories and still give it his all! I miss you narrating these books! What's wrong with Kresley Cole that she hasn't relea ...more

Nikolai Wroth & Myst the Coveted
Reread 11/08/23
So, depending on where you look this is either book 1 (amazon) or book .05 (goodreads) in the series.
In my previous review I said it felt more like a prequel, especially since I read it after reading A Hunger Like No Other. Now it feels like it could be either, since it's been so long since I read AHLNO, that I don't recall the details.
Anyway, I still liked this book, most likely more than the first time because I will be changing my rating from 3 ...more

Here is my review from book 2 and the issues are the same:
Apparently this series is all about the women being bullied into submission by the "hero" of the story. The first one is apparently a little "rapey" in that the sex scene starts off forced and then the woman eventually submits. But in this book the hero actually rapes someone and a popular reviewer/friend says the heroine doesn't have any ill effects or even a problem with it really. The rapey-ness is a common enough theme with were-whate ...more

Myst betrays Nikolai and leaves him desperate for release...for five years! Ouch. When he gets the chance to enslave her (kinda like a djinn), he takes full advantage. Though it's not as bad as you'd imagine since she is his soul mate and he isn't interested in harming her. A surprisingly romantic story given the hero is a medieval warlord and the heroine a fierce valkyre.

I love this series! So it was no hardship to pick up this book again and re-immerse myself in the Immortals After Dark world. There is so much going on, but the story is still strong and focused. I'm looking forward to fully rereading this series as I await the next installment. ...more
