The more I read this book, the more I realize how uneven the story was. Bowen made mistake after mistake and poor Mariketa just kept forgiving him and giving him chances! That said, I understand why she did it...I think I can forgive Bowen everything because of that accent. God almighty! But that accent is hot. *fans self*

I'm a bit disappointed. I expected more wit in dialogues and more sassy comments. I've been waiting for Bowen story and Mari as his mate is okay but I wanted more fight between them.

I read this many moons ago and rated it 5 stars at that time. It's the one story that I managed to read during my first reading of this series that I actually remember quite a few details from. However, this time around it didn't give 5-star vibes.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it. More because of Mariketa than anything else. She is where the emotion came from, and she had the best scenes. I felt her emotional pain when she would lament how no one ever choo ...more

First read in 3/2011. Reread on 11/4/11. Reread on 9/5/13. Reread/Listened to Audio: August 2018. Reread/Listened to Audio: July 2020. Reread/Listened on Audio: Feb 2023.
No matter how many times I read this I'm always sucked into the story and the world and the characters.
Still love this installment. Still one of my favorites.
The audio, as with all the others in the series, is amazing.
Even though I've reread this multiple times, I'm still engaged, I'm still just excited and eager to continue a ...more

3.5 stars
I enjoyed this book, but not quite as much as I did the previous book in the series, which is disappointing because I've been looking forward to reading Bowen's book. I think the main thing that kept this from being a solid 4 star read for me was the constant "two steps forward, three steps back" issue that seemed to encompass Bowen and Mari's relationship. Every time they'd make some progress in trusting each other, one of them would do something to sabotage the relationship. I realize ...more
