Apparently this series is all about the women being bullied into submission by the "hero" of the story. The first one is apparently a little "rapey" in that the sex scene starts off forced and then the woman eventually submits. But in this book the hero actually rapes someone and a popular reviewer/friend says the heroine doesn't have any ill effects or even a problem with it really. The rapey-ness is a common enough theme with were-whatevers and I have a problem enough with that, but out and ou ...more

Re-read in Audio 10/21/20 **4 stars**: I don't know if I've mellowed with age or if Robert Petkoff's narration has made me see the characters in a new light or if I've realized how difficult is to find a series that truly entertains me, but lots of things that used to bother me about this book in prior reads didn't bother me as much. After listening to most of the books - some of them multiple times! - it has dawned on me that Ms. Cole is making fun of the genre - bodice rippers PNR style! I sh ...more

Emmaline Troy and Lachlain MacRieve

First Time Rating: 5 stars
Reread Rating: 4 stars

I read this book years ago and absolutely loved it, and I still enjoyed it this time around. However, it just goes to show how time and maybe prospective can affect how you view something.

I loved Emmaline and was proud of her for trying to find the information from her past. Especially doing it alone in an unfamiliar place when she's not used to that. Plus, seeing her growth throughout the story made me like her

This was my second attempt at this book, having put it down the first time because of Lachlains hilarious comedy scottish accent (which still reminds me of Gameskeeper Willy from the Simpsons).

It's a powerful love story, incredibly sexy. Lachlain is a really good character (accent aside), the strength of his feelings for Emma are inescapable. I guess I just really like the idea that there is one person that we are pre-destined to spend our lives with - love at first sight, all that kind of thing

I would actually give this book a 2.5 if I could; there were so many parts that I absolutely hated! The whole stockholm/fall in love with an abusive kidnapper story line just doesn't do it for me and, although Emma grew a backbone as the story progressed, she was too annoying and whiny for me to like until the end of the book. Hopefully the rest of the series isn't like that since the rest of the characters were more enjoyable to read about. I'll try the next book and see what happens but this o ...more

A Hunger Like No Other (The Immortals After Dark Series, Book 1) by Kresley Cole (2006)

I admit that I read the book just to know what the fuss was all about, but I just couldn't grasp the romance between the two "lovers". It wasn't the love I was expecting to read about. I'm pretty disappointed in this one, I shouldn't have had so high expectations! ...more
