What can I say about this book that I didn't go into at length in my review of the second book in the series? It introduced me to one of my favorite series and favorite authors ever. It introduced one of my favorite male love interests ever. It started a series that is unique and addictive, gutwrenching and heart healing. This is one of my favorite series ever.

4.5/5 This book was such a breath of fresh air. It is so nice to have a heroine and heros that are not perfect and battle their own inner demons like so many people in real life does. I love it that she is a drug addict it just makes the story that much more interesting. The whole concept of these books are unique and such a welcomed change. I can't wait to read more.

I really enjoyed the world building and it made me feel like I was in this world. I love anything dealing with ghost and the after life. The only problem I had with the story I really didn't like the main character. She was really well written but I just didn't like her. Maybe I will like her better as I continue with the series.

Wow! This is a dark, gritty, in your face book that I did not quite expect. In a future where religion has been put aside, Chess is a Debunker for the Church of Truth. Debunkers get paid by the Church to prove that ghosts are not involved in fake hauntings. Chess' life is a whirlwind of chaos. She is a drug addict and owes Bump, the local dealer a huge amount of money. In an effort to repay her debt, Chess becomes embroiled in a turf war both physically and spiritually.

I loved the world Kane has created!
This story was a fresh take on Urban Horror/Fantasy, with believable characters and a great plot.
I'm with a few of the other reviews I've read. I had a little trouble with the whole idea of the main character being a drug addict. At least the writers owned it. Chess has moments when she questions her addiction and her senses, but keeps popping the pills. In fact at one point the speed may have actually saved her.

I was really surprised by this book as it wasn't at all what I expected. It was much darker and the characters were a lot bleaker than most of the paranormal series I have read until now. I really like how Terrible isn't the god-like adonis that most leading men are and Chess was incredibly flawed. I have to admit, like a few other reviewers, I found her drug taking difficult to read. At no point does she even contemplate trying to stop or regard it as bad for her, but I suppose that is probably
