I realized quickly that I have read this novella before. It was still a nice distraction.

Kate and Curran are trying to save boy from a cursed gold collar that his mother put around his neck.

Gives back story and perspective to a few scenes in Gunmetal Magic and I think it is better read before Gunmetal Magic.

I've loved the Kate Daniels series from the beginning and this cute short is just that cute. I read Gunmetal Magic first so a lot of this book was a repeat but I still enjoyed it. His Furry Majesty just cracks me up. (I still can't believe that Kate calls Curran that. It's just too funny).

This is short (but with lots of action) that I won't go into any details but suffice it to say, if you're a Kate Daniels (or Curran) fan, you must read this but read it before Gunmetal Magic so the suspense is

I was ten feet from the office door of Cutting Edge Investigations when I heard the phone ring inside.>/b>

5 stars.

Even with a short story Ilona Andrews can take me on a wonderful journey.

As always Kate and Curran are favorite characters. Along with Andrea and Jim.

I wanted to slap the mother of the boy, a lot. I loved how (view spoiler)

The little bit of information we get on Andrea and Raphael breaks my heart and cannot wai

Wonderful! This was a great story full of excitement and danger, a little mystery and pathos, and one little boy who isn’t even slightly annoying like so many kids in adult novels are. Kate and Curran work seamlessly together and it’s a beautiful thing. I have only one nitpick (how fast the family arrived at the restaurant.) I literally could not put it down. Not to eat—and I was really hungry—not to relieve myself (and by the end I was desperate)—not even to put a warmer blanket on the bed. I c ...more

#5.4 in the wonderful Kate Daniels paranormal series

This short book took an excessively long time to read, probably because I prefer to listen to them. This time we follow Kate and Curran as they try to save a little boy who is wearing a golden necklace that is slowly killing him. Kate must find the creator of the necklace, a dwarf who is hidden and practically inaccessible, in order to find the secret to releasing it from the boy before it's too late. She has the help of Ghastek and his vampire
