I'm really glad I re-read this book for challenge because I remembered very little about it! And it definitely stood the test of time. After 8 years, my rating and feelings are exactly the same - isn't that wonderful? I always find the books written by Ilona & Gordon to be so wonderful nuanced, specially the characterization. They feel so real to me that many times I find myself thinking "this is exactly how a guy would react".

Meh. Couldn't really get into this one. Don't think I'll be reading anymore of the series.

Rose Drayton has wild flash magic which Weird blueblood Declan Martel wants for his heirs. He is in the Edge "courting" Rose which is a good thing considering something like hellhounds (only worse) are terrorizing the residents of the Edge, especially Rose's family. Rose's younger brothers Georgie and Jack have gifts as well. Georgie raises the dead and Jack is a changling cat-shifter. The sparks really fly (no pun intended) between Rose and Declan. He may be an opportunist but he is sexy as hel

The Ilona Andrews team can really do no wrong, and the only reason this book is at 4 stars rather than 5 stars is that my love for it wasn't quite as great as my love for Kate Daniels is. But it has the characteristic action, tension, kick-ass heroine, romance, dreamy hero and incredible world building that the Kate Daniels series has. Rose Drayton is very cool - a single carer for her two little brothers in a realm that exists between The Broken (our world) and The Weird (the world of magic). E

What a cool story! I really enjoyed the detail and interactions in this book. The Edge came alive in my head and I found it amusing to think of where I live as the “broken.” My only real issue with this book is that it took a while to really engage with the world and characters. The real story took a little too long to flesh out, in my opinion. Once things got rolling though, it was fun to see it all come together. Rose is one tough woman and I appreciate that she didn’t just fall over when the

A paranormal romance with suspense overtones. Rose Drayton lives in the Edge, Declan, a blue-blood peer, is from the Weird, and he wants her. More than that, he wants to purge his land and hers from a terrible fate. People are being killed for their magic, and the two must join together to fight the evil that has come to the Edge.

This was my first Ilona Andrews book. Loved it! Won't be my last. Great Urban Fantasy with a splash of romance.
