I have to say I was actually not entirely hooked on this series until this book, even if some things about this installment sort of irked me. I can't lie: it was Curran. I have to read the rest of this series, if not for the awesome world and interesting plots, then at least to figure out whether or not Kate and Curran finally just get together, damn it. Regardless the story was pretty awesome otherwise. Although, the (view spoiler) ...more

4 stars. Freakin’ Ilona Andrews ending this book with that delicious tease of a cliffhanger. So rude. I wanted more but besides that this was another awesome installment in the series. So much goes down in this book that it was insane. The action gets better and more intense with each book.

Also, let’s get this out of the way I am now 100% in love with Curran. His wit, his snark, his protectiveness and just the way he is such a lovable pain in the ass has fully grown on me now. Especially after h

This book ticked all the boxes for me and won me over as a Kate Daniels fan. It is so refreshing to have a mature, independent, strong female lead with a great sense of humour. And thankfully, there is no insta-love: Curran makes the pursuit of Kate into a slow seduction using infinite patience, steely determination and bucket loads of charm.

When her young werewolf friend, Derek, draws her into his foolish rescue attempt of a young girl, she finds out about the Midnight Games. Some shifters have been beaten in a way that that doesn't allow them to shift or heal, which ends up killing them and no one has a clue why. The newest one being Derek. This hits Kate hard so she joins the rogue shifters in some serious investigation work. This means joining in a badass tournament very likely to kill them. We also get some very interesting info on Kate's origins and Big advances with Kate & Curran's romantic relationship. I want more! ...more

Whoa what a mess

Kate has definitely gotten into quite the problem. Her days were definitely not easy right from the start but when it comes to her friends she doesn't care what lines needed to be crossed even some that may lead to no return.
I have to say I really enjoy the banter between Kate and Curran even the heat that Kate tries to hide but Curran is slowly working his magic charm. Pack unity is something special and I enjoy that bond. I can't wait to read more and see what's to come.
