Update
I decided that this year would be the year when I actually re-read series that I've started but never continued. So I was glad that I needed a shifter book and picked Magic Bites because I actually enjoyed it. Kate is a kick-ass heroine but sad that she has to live her life protecting herself from everything and everyone around her unless Curran wants to step up and change things. My best friend has been hounding me for awhile to start this series. I delayed it because magic isn't part of the paranormal/urban fantasy genre that I can typically get into. I love how this actually told a story. Obviously it is part of a much bigger story for Kate Daniels. It's refreshing to read about a female character that is strong, independent, intelligent (even when she does make stupid decisions). Just touches of romance, possibly for future stories? No sex (thank you, Ilona Andrews).

This is the first book in the Kate Daniels series. Kate calls herself a mercenary. She can kick some serious ass! Her guardian has been killed. She needs to find out by whom and why he was killed. She also finds out some others have disappeared and murdered. Who is doing this and why?
I liked this story. I think that Kate Daniels will become a favorite, just like Jane Yellowrock and Mercy Thompson.

“What kind of a woman greets the Beast Lord with 'here, kitty, kitty'?”
