I have started a lot of new series lately, but this one would have to be up there as one of my favourites. I will admit, I did have to work hard throughout the book to fully understand the world and the rules which applied within it, but Kate was just such a brilliant heroine that it was definitely worth the effort. I really liked the fact that this was clearly an adult series. There was swearing, but not too much - just enough to have an impact (and cause a laugh). There was definitely the buil

The good ~ I like Kate Daniels voice. Ms. Andrews is a great writer and I liked Kate quite a bit. He writing style is so great that it made the book very easy to read. I didn't have to keep stopping and going back, like I have to do with so many others.
The bad ~ This world is not really for me. I don't like that vamps are basically just vessels that someone else controls. I want my vamps, undead and super sexy. ie..Lara Adrian, JR Ward, and even Charlene Harris's Eric Northman.

This is probably a case of, "It's not you, it's me." UF is really not my favorite genre. Too much world building, too many characters and rules and regulations within the world to keep track of, too many races/supernatural beings for me. Doesn't help I read this while I have a pretty annoying headache.
But, in keeping with the GR rating system, two stars for me is, "It was okay." If the urge to read UF strikes again, I'd definitely give this series another shot. I've heard it gets better with the ...more

A better and easier read the second time around. There's a lot of universe/world-building and "rules" to learn which can make it a difficult read or a DNF. I think it's worth giving it a chance though since my rating went from 2 stars to 4 stars.

I have been meaning to start this series for a while, but kept putting it off for some reason...I’m really sorry I did that! Kate Daniels is a bad ass and the world Ms. Andrews created is amazing. There is some amazing politics within the various factions that I look forward to see play out in future books. As for Kate, I am ready to dive in to the next chapter of her life to see where she’s headed. The only reason I couldn’t give this a five-star rating is because there were a few plot points t

Was ok. Going to read the second in the series. Liked that it wasn't an info dump and the authors introduced the world building more subtlety. But really guys... As a reader you're a little confused already and then you introduce Curran, Corwin and Crest as characters come on! Was really hoping you would have named one of them Steve. Lol
