This book was incredibly confusing to me. It's the first thing I've read by this author. The author makes up words but doesn't explain what the heck they mean (grosstopically, topolganger). I eventually figured out what the hell he was talking about but it took quite a while. He drops things in that he assumes the reader understands. Well I surely didn't. And we don't get to know Inspector Borlú much as a person; in fact, we learn more about the lives and personalities of the victim and other potential victims and suspects. The cities, however, become vibrant personalities and actors in the drama.
