This is one of the best books I have ever read, my second favorite book of all time. The amount of detail and research that Ms. Willis must have done is staggering and yet the book is very readable and the people come alive. Rather than either idolizing or condeming the past or the future, Willis presents both in a very real, all-too-human light. Though the book is long, I plowed through it, and was never bored. I like all of her books, but this is one of Willis' best. I don't usually like time-

I feel very middling about this book. The creativity is fun, there aren't gaping holes or mistakes in the structure or plot, and some characters (Kivrin, many of the people in the 14th century timeline) are enjoyable.
However, in my opinion there are problems in the writing.

I have wanted to read this book ever since it came out in the early 90s. I think I might have enjoyed it more then. The part that takes place in the past as a college student travels to an English village in 1348 at the outbreak of the Plague is brilliant and very captivating. The part that supposed takes place in the 2050s has not held up well at all. It's a bit like looking at a science fiction movie from the early 60s - but heck, even the Star Trek away teams had communicators. I don't unders

What a great story, even in the slow or sad parts! There is plenty of action and dialogue but also some very detailed prose. I find it easier to listen to longer books and this was no exception. The metaphor near the end about the responsibility we feel when sending others to a place with unknown dangers gathers the whole narrative together.

One of the best books I've read in a while. It drew me in from the first couple pages and the story never let up. It's part science fiction, part historical fiction, part medical thriller, and part religious exploration that's gripping and fascinating. The characters were of all ages and very interesting. Wonderful book!
