This morning I started listening to the audiobook of this story. OMG is it boring! I made it to chapter six, around page 65 before totally giving up on it. I don't think I've ever "read" anything so dry and tedious. I absolutely hated Mr. Norrell. He is so contrary and rude to everyone. Since no one is as good a magician as he is, they aren't even worth talking to. Amazingly enough, all the "magicians" in London, are theoretical magicians who can't do a lick of magic ...more

I thought this book did its thing very well, but it did it for far too long. The book's ending worked, but felt anticlimactic after the 1000 page build up.

The story of two magicians who are destined to bring magic back to England. The first third of this book really drags. The next third picks up in places with Strange finally comign into the story but still pretty slow. The last third was interesting and the plot did get wrapped up but it took way too long to get to that point.
