Having read several books by this author, I have to say that this was my favorite. It's a love story that lasts a lifetime. Both Florentino and Fermina lead other lives after a brief fling during their youth. Florentino becomes frightened of the passionate Fermina and marries a wealthy, well-born doctor who becomes loved and highly respected by all he knows, including Fermina. A very strange book and I didn't like the male characters at all. I honestly thought this would be much better and now I feel a little disappointed. I liked some parts and the way that this wasn't a typical love story. But maybe I'm just not the right person for this book.
