Having read several books by this author, I have to say that this was my favorite. It's a love story that lasts a lifetime. Both Florentino and Fermina lead other lives after a brief fling during their youth. Florentino becomes frightened of the passionate Fermina and marries a wealthy, well-born doctor who becomes loved and highly respected by all he knows, including Fermina.
