At first, I didn't think I was going to like this book. But has the storyline unfolded. I began to become intrigued with the characters, especially with the hopes and dreams of Pasquale the innkeeper and the inter-weaving of real-life events and figures. It all came together for me in this delightful and sad novel. Its definitely a book to be read again. I look forward to visiting this small Italian village again and vacationing at Pasquale's Inn. :)

I have finally finished this book. Even though it's just 300 odd pages it has been a bit of an effort. I just didn't seem to be able to stay with the cast of characters who seemed to be frustratingly intent on their self pity and self destruction repeatedly making poor life choices.

The last 100 or so pages lessons were finally learned with wounds being almost healed and faith restored. This may well have been the part where the characters behaved most realistically. This could have been the mos

It has been so long since I have picked up a "literary" book which is at once romantic, hopeful, stylistically brilliant and still capable of humour. This is a book people need to read to remember how human humans really are and how they are capable of so much good and so much wrong. Highly recommended! ...more

I enjoyed Pasquale's story and found several threads of this book enjoyable. I do think, however, the book tried too hard and had too many threads. Not that it was confusing, because it wasn't - it was actually pretty simplistic in the way it wove them all together. Only that the varied threads became a bit uninteresting. ...more

The last chapter is the best of all...but the rest is worth reading...if in a slightly haphazard way.
