The Weed That Strings the Hangman's Bag is another wonderful story of Flavia De Luce as she solved puzzle behind the death of a well known puppeteer, Rupert Porson. Flavia as curious as she is met Rupert Porson and his friends as they were arranging a puppet show in Buckshow. But as they were watching one of the show, the puppeteer fell to his death. She was intrigued and eager to look for evidence that the puppeteer was murdered and not by accidental death. As she was investigating the said dea

I really enjoy had such a young girl always manages to get herself caught up in a mystery but this time Flavia was actually helping and not getting herself in trouble even though she forgot to do things that was supposed to be done at home. Flavia is a fun character. She's always trying to find a way to torcher her sisters since they can be a bit mean to her being the youngest but she is quite smart for 11 years of age. I find it fun reading about her adventures.

Another fun glimpse into the life of English youngin' Flavia de Luce, chemistry/poison-obsessed ball of precociousness that solves murders in a small town in the 1950s English countryside.
While not quite as well-paced as the first one (this one took almost half the book to get to the murder, which clearly isn't shocking when it's revealed who the victim is in the book blurb!), it was still a LOT of fun watching this mischevious and resourceful little girl put pieces together and solve a crime. Flavia de Luce, the eleven year old sleuth and chemist obsessed with poison, meets famous TV star and puppeteer, Rupert Porson and his assistant Nialla, who are stranded in their broken down van. They agree to put on a performance of Jack and the Beanstalk for the residents of Bishop's Lacey and Flavia swings into action to help set it up. During the matinee performance the audience realizes the "Jack" puppet looks liked five year old Robin Inglesby who was found hanging in the woods a few years

I enjoy Flavia as a character. She reminds me of some of my gifted students I teach. Especially when she's justifying her way out of trouble. The mystery in this one took a while to develop, but I was entertained by Flavia's interactions with her family (particularly her sisters) and her neighbors. There are some inconsistencies in the book, but I can overlook them in the name of a fun, light read.

Flavia de Luce is very entertaining as the central character and I really applaud the author's authenticity in remembering that Flavia is an 11 yr old girl. Precocious or not, she's still subject to the intense ups, downs and imagination of a child.
This one made me laugh out loud the most.
This reads like a series written for an adult audience but is clean of language and any overt or detailed sex themes so not inappropriate for younger readers as well.
