Flavia is such a funny child. Not only is she smart but she is pretty good at getting herself involved in deaths. She seems to be caught accidently or is it. She does help get the right person. I so love how she names her bike and the drama with her sister. Of course the things that she blurts out are quite fun too. Flavia to the rescue I say. LOL

This is the first one where I found myself annoyed buy Flavia's precociousness. Normally it doesn't bother me but I got a bit frustrated with her excessive lying and withholding of information. As clever as she is she should know better on some fronts. But Bradley does a good job of portraying an 11 year old girl, seeing the world through her eyes. Flavia de Luce is very entertaining as the central character and I really applaud the author's authenticity in remembering that Flavia is an 11 yr old girl. Precocious or not, she's still subject to the intense ups, downs and imagination of a child.
This one made me laugh out loud the most.
This reads like a series written for an adult audience but is clean of language and any overt or detailed sex themes so not inappropriate for younger readers as well.

The BOT narrator for this was stellar. The series is growing stronger for me. I am still of the opinion that Flavia is too precocious for her age, but she is interesting in a very dark way. Flavia goes to the fete to have her fortune told and sets of chain of events in motion that involve murder, kidnapping and religious conspiracy. There are red herrings galore in this story and several different crimes happening and some overly dramatic coincidences as well. All in all, a rip roaring read and
