I quite like Flavia, the eleven-year-old heroine of the novel. With a passion for chemistry--and poisons!--she is bright, inquisitive, observant, and capable of some brilliant deductions. Calling her an amateur sleuth just doesn't seem to give her enough credit. Yet, in spite of her logical, scientific mind, she is also given to flights of fancy, a vivid imagination (particulary as concerns the gruesome and morbid), and much impetuousness, making her a bit more believable as an eleven-year-old.

Once again, a rating thwarted by Goodreads's lack of half-stars. I actually rated this one at 4.5 stars. The narration is awesome and the feel of the book reminded me a little of Lemony Snicket. Flavia is very precocious for her age and there are a lot of ten-dollar words at work. It's very light-hearted and whimsical for a mystery and that made it all the more fun. I also really liked all of the chemistry references sprinkled throughout the plot. I'm just nerdy like that.

Really enjoyable, witty and charming and with a really sarcastic, but very loveable main character. The mystery was also pretty awesome, dark and entertaining. Also I honestly didn't knew who the murderer was until Flavia found it out.
