Don't know why I never read this before -- timing, I guess. It clearly deserves its reputation as a classic. Over the course of the book, you really get to know Scout and her family and friends, and through them the small southern town they all live in. I knew that it was about a white man defending a black man. True, and important -- but there's also so much more to the book than that. It's as complex as our lives, and the way we treat those around us, all seen through the simple, crisp vision

This is one of the best books I have read. I may not enjoyed it as much in high school, but as an adult I couldn't put it down.
