5 lovely, simple, thought-provoking stars!!
To kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee is a supreme classic. It"s an austere yet elegant book written from the POV of a little girl, Jean Louise Finch a.k.a. Scout. who narrates about the ridiculous attitude of adult men and women towards class and racism, prevalent in the 1930s world, as perceived by her childlike mind.
In the first part, the county’s lawyer, Atticus Finch tells his children this-

I absolutely loved this book!!! With all the reviews done of it, it is very hard to find anything new to add. If you take away anything from this book, it should be Atticus' belief in respect for all humans regardless of race or abilities. It definitely should be required reading in all high schools.

Ultimately, I did really like To Kill a Mockingbird, yet I find the points raised in this 1-star review to be valid and thought-provoking.
The novel does neatly avoid any meaningful discussion of race, to make it an issue of good people versus bad people. It provides answers that seem tidy and simple, but which ultimately do not address the complex issues created by slavery, Jim Crow laws, etc. When Scout says to Jem that it seems to her that there aren't different kind of folks (not whites like ...more

Enchanting
To Kill a Mockingbird, has all the elements of a great novel, in all the right amounts in all the right places. A dash of humor, a pinch of wit, a drop of adventure, a measure of intrigue, a good dollop of morality, more than good helping of fatherly advice, some good old fashioned family values, delightfully wrapped up in a damn fine plot.

I have read this book 2 or 3 times (actually, maybe 3-4). I enjoy it every time and will re-read it again at some point.
The author, Harper Lee, shows a true, deep understanding of the human condition, and group dynamics, and how the two interact. I enjoyed the depth of the characters and the way that they interacted with one another and how they fit into a plot which is both simple and complex at the same time.

I knew bits and pieces about this book, but I'm glad I finally read it for myself and wish all students had to read this. There's a lot of wisdom slipped in from a child's perspective.
