This book had me totally captivated from the first pages.
Laini Taylor is a genius. She has created fantasy world like no other - wonderful mix of angels and monsters I have never met before, creatures so imaginative and original mixed together with human world so smoothly and written beautifully.
I can't find a fault in this book and it's for sure one of the most unique and beautiful fantasy books I have ever read.

This is one of the few books I've read that I liked the beginning more than the rest. It goes off like a skyrocket at the start: you've got your heroine, portals, conflict, drama and a guy with a very strange occupation. Then in the middle of the book in strolls a love interest and our protagonist gets all glassy-eyed and the pace slows down from overdrive to first gear. Then at the end we get a lot of backstory of a seemingly inconsequential character and the focus of the story doesn't return t ...more

“Wishes are false. Hope is true. Hope makes its own magic.”

Gotta say, I'm equal parts in love and disappointed with this book. The first 200 or so pages, it was interesting. The pacing was good at the beginning, it kept you interested, and then... everything just fell apart.

Karou is a seventeen-year-old girl, but it feels like she's a senior in college because she was in and out of class like it was no big deal. She seemed a little bit of a brat at times, but there were moments wh

"Fuck you, quirky ist keine Charaktereigenschaft!"

The beginning of this book was slow going for me, but once I was about a quarter of the way in I was hooked.

When I realized what the story was about I didn't think I was going to like it, I don't really care for angel and demon stories, but I was very surprised to find that I did enjoy it!

The characters are interesting and unique. The ideas in the story are so different from anything else I've ever read, which was so refreshing.

Just a heads up, there are a few swear words (view spoiler)

The world the author created is very rich and I loved both the descriptions of Prague and the myths of both the chimera and angels. The characters were very interesting, even the supporting characters having depth and quirkiness. And overall a very entertaining tale!

I believe this series would appeal best to teenagers. The young blue haired, tattooed protagonist is a non-conformist, who loves her unconventional family. She switches between two realms, never guessing that there are even more worlds to which she must adjust.

I enjoyed the premise and had a difficult time in having to choose sides.
