Can a person ever escape the past? This is the basis of this novel. Katie moves to a small North Carolina town to escape an abusive husband, but becomes reluctant friends with a widower with young children and the next door neighbor, Jo. This suspense-filled novel answers this question and so many more about the nature of love, trust, and safety.

I have read all of Nicholas Sparks books and I would be the first to say that some of them leave a bit to desire. But I really got into Safe Haven. The story is a new spin for Sparks- it is a bit darker with the romance taking a slower and quieter undertone.

I didn't catch on to the ending very far in advance. It is one of my favorite books by this author.
