Originally published in Germany in 2009, Ruby Red is the first in a trilogy about a rather odd family whose lineage includes several time travelers. The story centers on Gwyneth, whose cousin Charlotte is the expected final traveler in the family and has been trained almost from birth to assume the role. Unfortunately for Charlotte, Gwyneth’s mother somehow managed to keep the actual date of her birth a secret, which means that Gwyneth is in reality the true time traveler. Unprepared, Gwyneth fi ...more

I picked this book up because of a challenge I'm doing....didn't think I was going to like it....surprise, surprise, it was really great! It did start a little slow and there were a couple times I wanted to shout at the main character ("JUST TELL YOUR MOTHER ALREADY!" "SAY WHAT YOU'RE THINKING!" etc.) but by the end, I was so enthralled with the book and so curious to find out more it was awesome! Just a word of warning: the book ends very suddenly. Talk about wanting to pick up #2 right away! I ...more

I really liked this book! I'm not sure what I expected going in, but I found it to be a very sweet and fun read. Gwyneth is a wonderful character and I thought the concepts of time travel were treated very well. I wasn't unnecessarily confused with a bunch of technical jargon. Instead, we see the world through the eyes of Gwyneth, who's being mainly kept in the dark about the whole thing, and learn as we move through the story.

As I said, Gwyneth is a really likeable and down-to-earth character a

My second attempt getting back to YA fantasy (the other being Graceling). Oh how I missed Katsa. I'm not going to believe teenage girls are this idiotic, I hope they're not. Gwyneth Shepherd is introduced to us as an unlikely time traveler, but I wasn't expecting her to be this terrible, even when she's actually being the "ruby". Her best friend, the one who's only there for information dump, looks like she'd do a better job. Gwyneth is only bothered about what the idiot thinks of her (I've legi ...more

*DO NOT CONTAIN SPOILERS BUT CONTAIN SUPPOSITIONS FROM MY POV*

First i have to admit that this was a cover buy for me, and i'm so glad i did it because the book was so good.

The plot line is imaginative and so well conceived, the general idea is that a gene exist only in 12 people and that gene permit them to travel to the past.
Gwen (our main character) is the last one to get it and from that point on it all changes.

I really like the fast pace of the plot and the fact that it was written in the
