First in the Seeds of America trilogy. This story details the American Revolutionary War from the perspective of Isabel a slave in the house of a British Loyalist. The all of the family, except one aunt, are horrible to her and her little sister Ruth. Isabel begins to spy for the Rebels hoping they will help her and sister escape.

I'm pretty certain that Laurie Halse Anderson couldn't write a bad book even if she tried. There is no other author that I have come across that writes as well as she does. Her work flows and your so caught up in it that you don't realize that it's 2 am and that you are almost finished.

Excellent fiction for children about a young slave girl who fights to keep her sister with her after her freedom is stolen away. I can see why the book won several awards.

I've been trying to read this book off and on for years now and this time I actually got to the finish line.
