This is a satire, but it was hard for me to appreciate it without having read what she was satirizing. I've read a fair amount of victorian literature and tend to like it. To me this was more like an inside joke or Austen venting some frustration, rather than a planned out, intricate story like many victorian novels.

Maybe I'll try this again to see if I get it in the future.

I loved Pride and Prejudice, so why did it take me so long to pick up and read this? I think I may have loved it even more. I've heard Northanger Abbey described as a satire of the popular gothic novels of the time, but I think it's more of a love letter to them.
