An excellent book - sad in how a teenager cannot express her outrage at an injustice. Great story of how she finally breaks through her fear and begins to communicate with the world again.

I started this book on 10/07/2009. I finished this book on 10/11/2009.

I think I read this book in high school. It was enjoyable but it was definately a young adult book. I felt so sorry for Melinda through-out the whole book. I can't say I understand what she went through and hopefully I'll never be able to say I understand it. Maybe girls in high school that have gone through what Melinda went through would like and feel with the book more then girls that haven't. Overall it was a 3 star for me ...more

The only reason I'm not giving this book five stars is because I was slightly disappointed in the ending. Otherwise, it is deserving of every accolade it has received. It deals with a very emotional topic from the viewpoint of a teenage girl who really (to me at least) sounded like a teenage girl. The story begins on the first day of high school for Melinda, Mel. Honestly, how many women have been raped?! And how does it change your life forever? While your friends are busy enjoying life, the victim lives inside her mind, repeating the horrendous act that she can never erase. I recommend this book - it is a great book for both teens and adults.
