Reading this book was like stepping back into high school for me. The girl who was looked at as the freak, the girl who was told she was no fun and was told she was depressed, and depressing and that she needed help. I could have wrote this book, I lived so much of it, except I never took art class, I had creative writing, poetry was my drug of choice when it came to outlets.

I think I read this book in high school. It was enjoyable but it was definately a young adult book. I felt so sorry for Melinda through-out the whole book. I can't say I understand what she went through and hopefully I'll never be able to say I understand it. Maybe girls in high school that have gone through what Melinda went through would like and feel with the book more then girls that haven't. Overall it was a 3 star for me ...more

All we know is that something happened at a party over the summer. Mel called the cops and kids were arrested. Now no one wants anythi

This was a great book. Not only were descriptions of high school life and student relations spot-on, there were some truly moving passages. Some of it was also funny, like the student in English class who complains about the symbolism discussion and that authors don't do this stuff intentionally. This, in a book that is dripping with symbols about silence and talking, not to mention the whole tree symbol throughout. Brilliant! The topic is something teen girls should know about and the book was

A very though provoking book and I completely understand and empathise with the principal character.
A definitely good book for 9th grade girls to read.
