Who would have thought the apocalypse could be so hilarious! Neil Gaiman was already one of my favourite authors so I knew I would like this but being less familiar with Pratchett, I wasn't expecting the fantastical ideas and laugh out loud humour that he brought to the table and reading this book has definitely given me the push to read more of his work.

Might be one of the unpopular opinions but can't help.

The plot centered around Armageddon i.e., the last war between Good and Evil, bringing The End of the World and supposedly the destruction of humankind. It was the Great Plan all along. It brought about the birth of the Antichrist, the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse (this was embarrassingly new to me, thanks to my utter ignorance), angels, demons, witches, witchfinders and everyone gearing to either cause/prevent it.

There were parts of the Might be one of the unpopular opinions but can't help.

There were parts of the book that were thoroughly entertaining. Aziraphale and Crowley were undoubtedly the best characters in the whole book, *chef's kiss*. I enjoyed their daily banter and wished there were more of the kind in the book.

The humour in the book was pretty well done, especially towards the end. Immensely enjoyed the parts where R. P. Tyler, the snob and complaint box, was giving directions to blasting cars, motorbikes, bicycles, one after the other and recounting those in this endless complaint to who-doesn't-even-care-or-believe-anymore. That was hilarious and got me legit ROFL-ing.

The most annoying parts were those of the 11 year old Antichrist and The Them's (*rolls eyes* so much for creativity) backyard adventures. Somewhere in the middle half of the book, it goes completely off-track (probably part of the character building but still invariably tedious) and I had to constantly fight against DNF-ing the goddarn book. The kids' group felt like a cheap version of Famous Five (or Foully Four, for all I care) and I felt strongly that we could have done away with a lot of their dilly-dallying.

Another disappointment was Shadwell's character. He was a pain in the ass throughout the book. I never quite understood what his character was like. The parts of the story involving him were hurriedly done and not perfectly comprehensible (not to me, atleast).

I pretty much liked the characterization of the Four Horsemen but wished they were more extensively represented in the book.

Overall 3 stars for this book. Sadly, not among the books that I would generally recommend in fantasy. Or otherwise. ...more
