So many others have written much better reviews than I could ever write on this masterpiece.

If you've ever experienced loss, are in the middle of preparing for a loss, or will one day face a loss, then you need to read this book (aka, everyone!).

Just don't forget to bring the tissues. And a water bottle to stay hydrated.

I loved everything about this imaginative emotional YA short story! Yes, the story's premise is sad. It deals with a boy Conor's coming to terms with his mother being terminally ill with cancer. But the story is expertly crafted by the very talented Patrick Ness, and the message is about so much more than loss. It's about learning to accept the contradictions and struggles within yourself, to forgive yourself, to let go, and importantly, that these contradictions do not make you a bad person, ju ...more

This book broke my heart into a million pieces. I don't know if I should rate it a 5 stars or 1 star read. I cried almost the entire book. It was an extremely hard book for me to read. I almost put it down when I realized what it was about. ...more

It's not a book I would recommend to everyone, but it's an elegant way of describing how a young boy deals with emotions and how they "manifest" in other forms ...more

I'm not going to say much about this novel because I think you have to go into it without knowing what it's really about and just experience it. The illustrations are beautiful so it's absolutely worth buying a paper copy to enjoy them and it is quite a quick read.

As a side note, it's categorised on this page as Horror which nearly put me off reading it, but please don't be! It's aimed at kids/young adults and this complete wuss (who avoids the Horror genre like the plague) did not find it scar

I just finished reading, and I've never felt this way after reading a book before. I have this deep deposit sandess in me, it actually feels like my throat and chest are being constricted. At the same time I feel a sense of relief, relief from the sadness all at the same time.

Truths can really cage you in, but they also have the power to set you free!!

This is one of those rare books that deserve more than 5 stars. Don’t be fooled by it’s shortness or it’s Young Adult categorization. This is by far one of the best books I have ever read. I rarely cry and this book had tears streaming down my face.
