A dystopian community with a cover up as a utopian society. How perfect! Everything seems ideal. People are safe, everyone gets along, no one is sick, homeless, etc and everyone has the perfect job that suits their personalities. In many aspects, it sounds ideal. Yet it is all just facade for the most part.

I was a bit confused by the book to start with but it made me curious enough to keep going. I really liked the world building and found it very interesting.

However at the point where Jonas finds out about releasing I felt the whole book changed. It seemed like the author had given up on the book and was trying for a quick way out. I would have given this book 3 or 4 stars if not for the ending. It just ruined the book for me.

Among my reading goals for the year, I included "Re-read five old favorites." This one was the fifth. I found it interesting that I didn't enjoy any of the five as much this time around as I had originally; two of them I found rather dull. I am learning how much of my opinion of a book depends on my own stage in life and what other books I read first. Wow! I didn't know what I was expecting when I started this book, but I was enthralled and couldn't put the book down. The descriptions that the author gives are vibrant and detailed and I felt like I was feeling them for the first time. Incredible! ...more
