I really do enjoy reading this book. I can see why it is a great classic that most middle school/high school student are required to read. I thought that the plot and characters were very well written. It is like the Divergent series, but better. Where there is this town where everything is perfect (or so it seems) and that everything is black and white. Where everyone has their own purpose in life and when the children meet a certain age they have job placement where they would start to train i ...more

I was a bit confused by the book to start with but it made me curious enough to keep going. I really liked the world building and found it very interesting.

However at the point where Jonas finds out about releasing I felt the whole book changed. It seemed like the author had given up on the book and was trying for a quick way out. I would have given this book 3 or 4 stars if not for the ending. It just ruined the book for me.

I was really surprised by this novel. One of my friends told me about it while I was reading The Hunger Games and I was intrigued enough to try it out. The novel pulled me in right away and I did not put it now. The imagery that Lois uses is so detailed you feel that you are learning about the memories along side Jonas. I have told many friends about this novel so far and I plan on sharing it with my kids in the future.
