W-O-W. What a book. It made me smile, made me laugh, and made me cry. Written for junior high/high school, I would imagine; regardless, a book that should be required reading at some point in everyone's life. It makes me thankful for the world I live in but at the same time makes me revile our world and the pain it causes. I can't say enough wonderful things about The Giver, The Receiver, and everyone in between. I will most definitely be reading the other books in the series, the sooner the bet ...more

Found on the floor in my son's room and its been a long time since I read it. Quick read -- only 180 pages & so very powerful. Despite some "controversial practices" in the book, you should check it out again.

I was really surprised by this novel. One of my friends told me about it while I was reading The Hunger Games and I was intrigued enough to try it out. The novel pulled me in right away and I did not put it now. The imagery that Lois uses is so detailed you feel that you are learning about the memories along side Jonas. I have told many friends about this novel so far and I plan on sharing it with my kids in the future.

Part of a trilogy by Lois Lowry - good look at a future society which has made everything the same. No one has any differences and all things are decided by the community. No worries etc but very bland. A wonderful treatise on the value of differences. Highly recommend.

Just reread this via audio book - it was equally as good as before - perhaps I liked it even better - can I give it 6 stars.
