I enjoyed this re-engagement with the themes of Mrs. Dalloway. The author has approached Woolf's novel in three ways through three different characters whose perspectives alternate. Interweaving three apparently unconnected stories taking place in different places and times, Cunningham writes in a style very reminiscent of Virginia Woolf's. She is in fact one of the three characters. Only as the various stories gradually unfold do all the allusions to Woolf's character Mrs. Dalloway and to other references to Woolf's work, life, and death slowly begin to fall into place, and the interconnections weren't completely clear to me until the very end. I listened to the audiobook narrated by the author himself and I must say that he's got a pretty good voice; easy to listen to. My problem was that I didn't really know what the book was about or I thought I did but I really didn't so I got very confused at the start. And then, I checked the book description and it all made sense in that there were 3 different perspectives in 3 different time settings interconnected through the novel, Mrs Dalloway by Virginia Woolf.
