As a military wife whose husband is only months away from his 7th deployment and who has also received that dreadful "your spouse has been injured in Iraq" call this book was extremely difficult to get through. It really hit me right in the feels but it was still a very good book.

This was one of my least favorite Kristin Hannah books. It was really long, depressing, and dreary. There were some really important issues such as women leaving their children to go to war, but I felt like this book BEAT THE ISSUES TO DEATH!
Okay, we get it! War is hard on soldiers even after they return! Post traumatic stress disorder is a real illness, and our resources for returning vets are woefully unprepared.
Most of the characters in the Zarkades family are unlikable at times, and that ma ...more

Redemption, love, and a war's injuries are found in this heartbreaking novel of a woman whose marriage is in crisis and must battle back from injuries.
Jolene is the mother of two daughters, preteen Betsy and four-year-old Lulu, AND a soldier. In particular she is a pilot of a Black Hawk helicopter. Married to a high-powered criminal lawyer Michael, she is the family rock in that she does it all, coordinating schedules, meals, and more. Except her marriage is slipping away just as she is about to ...more

3.5 stars, rounding up. I read this book under duress; my face-to-face book group chose to read it, so I did. I've posted previously that I don't like Kristin Hannah's writing. After reading The Nightingale (again under duress!) and loving it, I tried to keep an open mind reading Home Front.
Overall I liked the book. There was some nice character development in Michael and Jolene. I felt bad for Michael at the beginning. Yes, he was being self-absorbed, but he was grieving his father's death. I w ...more

When you start reading this book make sure you have the tissues near by. I was already crying by page 80. Bravo Kristin Hannah, this has to be your best book yet!!!

A story of war and the toll it takes on soldiers and their loved ones left here at home. I read this book pretty quickly and cried through most all of it. One problem was it ended rather quickly and it seemed like all the problems were taken care of pretty quick also. I know from seeing my mother and father deal with the VA that getting help is not that quick at all.

What a powerful book!
Jolene has a nice life with 2 lovely daughters, a husband and mother in law. Her marriage is not perefct but she copes. Then she gets deployed. The book describes life at home and deployment. There are surprises and at one point it hit too close to home for me, and I put the book down for a few days. I picked it back up and plwed through it. the book didn't sugar coat anything and it felt very real. I recommend it to anyone looking for a compelling. emotional and satisfying ...more
