It's been a while since I first read this. Since I'm finally reading the third book in the series, I thought it was time for a reread. For the most part, the character development is solid in this first book, and the world-building is so natural. Katniss is a relatable narrator, one who understands poverty and fear. And she's flawed--despite her circumstances, I sometimes found myself frustrated with her--this is a good thing. It makes her real.

Great easy to read book, story keeps you hooked so you just can't put it down. And so much better than the movie! Looking forward to getting stuck into the next one in the trilogy.

A book aimed at 16 years old girls, if it had focused more on the political conflict surrounding the characters, it would've been better.
