I'm just going to put it out there.... I don't like Katniss's mother. :/
So sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen live in District 12, home to the coal miners and one of the poorest regions. Loved it. It took me a while to get past my discomfort with the writing style, but once I realized it supported Katniss' character well and the bleakness of the her story, I could not help loving this book. I look forward to Gary Ross' direction of the movie version! (And, for the record, once the movie came out, I thought it was well done and I was disappointed that he didn't get to direct the second one).

I am pretty 50/50 when it comes to dystopian novels, unfortunately for me I have seen the movie beforehand and that kinda ruined the experience for me. It felt a little slow and there were so many small details that were changed for the movie it kinda made the book frustrating for me. Sigh.
However, all that said I am really glad these books were made because I actually really do enjoy the story and I am glad they got made into movies. So koodos to Suzanne Collins.
