I enjoyed this more than I expected to. The synopsis had me only mildly curious but once I got started, I was quickly intrigued.
I like the characters Penryn and Raffe. It takes awhile as they needed to grow on my, but with the first 1/3 of the book I was happy with them. The world building is both vague and complex depending what is being explained. I hope more will be revealed in the second book. For his part, Raffe is a very detached character, but somehow shows a bit of humanity. I felt this was a strong start to this trilogy and look forward to seeing where it goes fro
