I really liked the mystery in this novel. The crime and who did it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. Too bad the characters in this novel weren't as engaging and as likable as they mystery.
I found Lisbeth Salander to be a horrible character. Not only was she incredibly selfish and had almost no morals, but she was just plan unlikable. Mikael Blomkvist is not that much better. I know I'm way behind on reading these books, but I finally decided to pull them off the shelf and dust them off while on an extended vacation. Thanks to other reviews and feedback from a coworker, I knew going in that the beginning was going to be quite slow. The first time I picked up the book I actually set it aside when I just couldn't get into it. I have been avoiding this book / series because I heard that there’s some serious level of violence in it. However I found that it’s barely 1% of the book and I could just skim the page onto the next bit and not missed much at all. I found the first few chapters a bit slow so I couldn’t get into it until a bit later but once the first hint of the mystery was mentioned, I was hooked. Let’s just say that it was a marvellous modern mystery novel and I was totally engrossed and loved it.

I wasn't certain what to expect from this book. I had read such good comments on it and had friends who read and liked it. It did take me by surprise. It took me a little while to get through the beginning to becomes familiar with all the names, etc., but once passed that it was a very good book. The writing style isn't the best, but the main characters were wonderful. Salander (lead female) is intense. I enjoyed all the little quirks with her character and Mikael Blomkvist.
