I thought I wasn't going to enjoy this one, I was wrong. It never blew me away or had me held in suspense but I enjoyed the story. The characters were not likable but they were not all dis-likable either.

**2015 Reading Challenge W/Josh: #44 A Book That Was Originally Written In A Different Language**

I really liked the mystery in this novel. The crime and who did it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. Too bad the characters in this novel weren't as engaging and as likable as they mystery.
I found Lisbeth Salander to be a horrible character. Not only was she incredibly selfish and had almost no morals, but she was just plan unlikable. Mikael Blomkvist is not that much better. He has almost no personality at all. He is entirely all to "what happens happens". He is far too content to ...more

This novel is set in Sweden, and you jump into an immediately fast-paced plot with lots of twists and surprises. It's a mainstream novel now but is surprisingly deep. It touches on journalism and ethics, business and economic theories, and then builds in an in-depth family mystery with a huge cast of characters. You can trust no one, and you can't even pretend to know what happens next.

Excellent story, a little slow to start but sucked me in and kept me going until the end. I had avoided it believing it was another mainstream Oprah-inspired touching story about nothing. (I love Oprah and think her having a book club is fabulous, but most of the books sound boring.) I'm so glad I was wrong! I learned a lot, too, like the horrible sounding things Swedes apparently eat and that in Sweden, you can schedule jail time and take holidays from it. I did figure out the larger mystery by

Wow.
I have been avoiding this book / series because I heard that there’s some serious level of violence in it. However I found that it’s barely 1% of the book and I could just skim the page onto the next bit and not missed much at all. I found the first few chapters a bit slow so I couldn’t get into it until a bit later but once the first hint of the mystery was mentioned, I was hooked. Let’s just say that it was a marvellous modern mystery novel and I was totally engrossed and loved it.
